Toby I agree totally with you about how groups can often turn in on themselves and become destructive spaces. For me this is a result of a really clever trick by the oppressors – to keep the oppressed squabbling amongst themselves so they do not turn their attention to the structures of oppression. You are also right about groups ordering oppressions into hierarchies as this does erase the validity of experience.
I share your thoughts Toby about how I know the things this paper is talking about by experience and intuitive thinking, but never know they can be theorised so neatly. It is quite helpful to organise my observations and thoughts on my teaching practice and the interaction with the students.
